{"id":342,"date":"2009-10-29T09:54:02","date_gmt":"2009-10-29T14:54:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.angelasthoughts.com\/?p=342"},"modified":"2009-10-29T09:54:02","modified_gmt":"2009-10-29T14:54:02","slug":"who-is-leading-your-conversation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.angelasthoughts.com\/?p=342","title":{"rendered":"Who is leading your conversation?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever talked with someone, or should I say listened to someone, who takes over a conversation?\u00c2\u00a0 You try to say something, but either get cut-off, or they just keep going on and on and on?\u00c2\u00a0 It is like all they want to do is be heard, and it doesn&#8217;t matter who they are talking too&#8230; just that they are talking?<\/p>\n<p>I have a daughter that is 11 going on 12 and she loves to talk.\u00c2\u00a0 Amongst the constant talking there are nuggets of information about her life, but sometimes I miss it because she is always talking&#8230; and after a while, I tune out the chatter.\u00c2\u00a0 It isn&#8217;t something I intentionally do, but often find myself asking, &#8220;What did she just say?&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 And at times she will be so focused on what she wants to say, that when I do get to respond&#8230; it is never heard.\u00c2\u00a0 It could be that I am asking her to do something, or replying to a question she has&#8230; and within minutes she will either have to be told again what to do, or I&#8217;m answering the same question that was just asked.\u00c2\u00a0 Sometimes, we will see the same thing happen, and she will repeat it about 5 times&#8230; to make sure that I knew it happened.\u00c2\u00a0 I saw it too!\u00c2\u00a0 I knew it happened! \ud83d\ude42 I understand that a lot of this is a girl thing&#8230; the mind racing from one thing to another so quickly that you feel you need to get it all out.<\/p>\n<p>But&#8230; as I was praying this morning, I found myself asking, &#8220;Who is leading my conversation with God?\u00c2\u00a0 Him or me?\u00c2\u00a0 More times than not, I think it is me.\u00c2\u00a0 I have so much to say, doesn&#8217;t He want to know it all?\u00c2\u00a0 I had this happen or that happen (which He already knows) and I need to tell Him how I feel about it (which He already knows).\u00c2\u00a0 I have so many requests and I need to remind Him about them all.\u00c2\u00a0 When I am finished&#8230; Have I allowed Him to say anything?\u00c2\u00a0 Did I lead our conversation?<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly enough, as I was looking for scripture references from the concordance in the back of my Bible, I couldn&#8217;t find the word &#8220;Listen.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 And when I looked for &#8220;Hear&#8221;, all the references were &#8230; guess?!\u00c2\u00a0 How God hears our prayers!\u00c2\u00a0 Wow.\u00c2\u00a0 Such selfish people we are!\u00c2\u00a0 But as I was reading Psalms 143, I went passed the referenced scripture where David is saying, &#8220;Hear me,&#8221; to him saying, &#8220;Cause me to hear&#8230;&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 Isn&#8217;t it crazy that my Bible concordance forgot to add the scriptures references about listening and hearing from God?<\/p>\n<p>Psalms 143 says,\u00c2\u00a0 <em><sup id=\"en-KJV-16295\" class=\"versenum\">&#8220;1<\/sup>Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness. <sup id=\"en-KJV-16296\" class=\"versenum\">2<\/sup>And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. <sup id=\"en-KJV-16297\" class=\"versenum\">3<\/sup>For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead. <sup id=\"en-KJV-16298\" class=\"versenum\">4<\/sup>Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate.\u00c2\u00a0 <sup id=\"en-KJV-16299\" class=\"versenum\">5<\/sup><strong>I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands. <sup id=\"en-KJV-16300\" class=\"versenum\">6<\/sup>I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.<\/strong> <sup id=\"en-KJV-16301\" class=\"versenum\">7<\/sup>Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.<sup id=\"en-KJV-16302\" class=\"versenum\">8<\/sup><strong>Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. <\/strong><sup id=\"en-KJV-16303\" class=\"versenum\">9<\/sup>Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me. <strong><sup id=\"en-KJV-16304\" class=\"versenum\">10<\/sup>Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness. <sup id=\"en-KJV-16305\" class=\"versenum\">11<\/sup>Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name&#8217;s sake: for thy righteousness&#8217; sake bring my soul out of trouble.<\/strong> <sup id=\"en-KJV-16306\" class=\"versenum\">12<\/sup>And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In this Psalm, David did let God know how he was feeling, and he did petition God&#8230; but he left room for God to respond when he told God how his soul was thirsty for Him, then said, &#8220;Cause me to hear&#8230; and cause me to know&#8230;&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 Both of these statements are seeking God&#8217;s advise, and acknowledging that He wanted to hear from His God.\u00c2\u00a0 And then, &#8220;Lord, teach me&#8230; and Quicken me.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 They were all types of requests, but showed us that David wanted to allow God to lead him.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, but I want God to lead our conversations.\u00c2\u00a0 I want to listen when he decides to speak, I want to feel the nudging of His spirit and allow Him to change the direction of my prayers if it is His will.<\/p>\n<p>Take time and think about this&#8230; Who is leading your conversation?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever talked with someone, or should I say listened to someone, who takes over a conversation?\u00c2\u00a0 You try to say something, but either get cut-off, or they just keep going on and on and on?\u00c2\u00a0 It is like all they want to do is be heard, and it doesn&#8217;t matter who they are <a class=\"read-more\" href=\"https:\/\/www.angelasthoughts.com\/?p=342\">Read More<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[10],"tags":[117,39],"class_list":["post-342","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-journal","tag-lead","tag-prayer"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.angelasthoughts.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/342","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.angelasthoughts.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.angelasthoughts.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.angelasthoughts.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.angelasthoughts.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=342"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/www.angelasthoughts.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/342\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":348,"href":"https:\/\/www.angelasthoughts.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/342\/revisions\/348"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.angelasthoughts.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=342"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.angelasthoughts.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=342"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.angelasthoughts.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=342"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
